Office of the Chief

Police Chief

Bruce Johnson
Concordia City Manager Larry Uri hired Bruce Johnson to lead the department at the end of February of 2013. Johnson comes back to Concordia after having served as interim police chief on two separate occasions.

In addition to serving as Interim Chief from October to December 2005, and March 2009 through July 2010, Johnson also served as the Assistant Chief from January through March of 2006. To aid the department during a personnel shortage, he worked as a patrol officer from April through August 2012. Uri said Johnson continued his connection to the police department after that as a reserve officer. "Bruce was my first choice of possible candidates to fill our Police Chief vacancy," Uri said. "I was very pleased when he accepted the position. He and I have worked closely together in the past. His familiarity with the department and the community will enable him to be an effective leader from day one."

Johnson has a Master's degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University and is a graduate of Fort Hays State University. He graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1980.

He was a member of the Wichita State University Police Department from 1983 to 2005, rising to the Rank of Captain. He also previously worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Ellis County Sheriff Department and Reserve Patrol Officer and Dispatcher for the Hays Police Department.
